New Seeds of Contemplation
by Thomas Merton
I know many of us at Saint Peter's are readers. All of us are people of prayer. In this time of social distancing, when the amount of silence around us has increased, and our fellowship with one another is looking so different, it could be a healthy opportunity for us to renew those practices that bring us closer to God.
I'd like to recommend to you Thomas Merton's New Seeds of Contemplation. I read this at a busy time in my life and it was a book--a prayer, really--that helped me to slow down and draw closer to God in the midst of that business. Many of Merton's works have stood the test of time, and I would recommend many of them.
For now, I've decided to pick this book up again and dig back in. And I'd invite you to join me. I don't have a strict reading schedule or any requirements in mind (that would be contrary to the nature of the book itself!). Starting Sunday, March 22, I'll be posting reflections on my reading in the form of a "blog" or even "vlog" throughout the weeks ahead. You can find a link to it below.
